It’s just traditional with pearls! I can’t tell for sure without examining the necklace in person, but if the knots look like a twisted cord, there’s a good chance it’s silk thread. If you re

This is the type of silk thread I use when doing pearls. Although there are others, and in lesser quantities. But this way you get an idea of what to look for.
