Firearm refinishing service: stainless to nitride/parkerized finishes.

This person is specifically looking for a service: "Any recommendations for shops that do that kind of work?"—specifically for refinishing a stainless steel firearm with a nitride or parkerized finish.

Product/Service Opportunity: A specialized firearm refinishing service that can expertly apply nitride or parkerized finishes to stainless steel firearms. While many gunsmiths offer Cerakote, nitriding and parkerizing, especially on stainless steel (which typically requires specific pre-treatment and is less common than on carbon steel), represent a more niche and potentially higher-value service.

Product/Service Suggestion: Set up a firearm refinishing workshop or expand an existing gunsmithing service to specialize in advanced finishing techniques like QPQ (Quench Polish Quench) nitriding (e.g., Melonite, Tenifer) and manganese or zinc phosphating (parkerizing), with a specific focus on achieving durable and aesthetically pleasing results on stainless steel firearms. Clearly communicate the process, durability, and appearance of these finishes compared to more common options like Cerakote.

Expected Benefits:

  1. Service Revenue: Direct income from fees charged per firearm refinished. Nitriding and parkerizing can command premium prices due to the complexity and specialized equipment/chemicals involved.
  2. Niche Market Capture: Attract customers specifically seeking these durable, corrosion-resistant, and often military-grade finishes, distinguishing the business from those only offering paint-based coatings.
  3. Reputation & Expertise: Building a reputation for high-quality, specialized finishes on various firearm materials, including stainless steel, can lead to a strong customer base and word-of-mouth referrals within the firearm enthusiast community.
  4. Higher Margins: Specialized services often allow for higher profit margins compared to more common or easily replicated services.
  5. Catering to Discerning Customers: Targets firearm owners who value durability, specific aesthetics, and are willing to invest in customizing and preserving their firearms.

I know you can park at home, I do not know of any companies that do it that i could recommend. Cerakote does have a park color which is likely cheaper and might even hold up longer.

Could go with bead blasted and get a flat finish or cerakote the thing in whatever color you want.

Yeah, was curious about that. Personally prefer more of a nitride or parkerized (black) finish. Any recommendations for shops that do that kind of work?
