3 phase isn’t the correct terminology. 3 stage, or duel is probably more correct. In the US most capacitors for AC units actually have three capacitors built in (Compressor start, compressor

Your fan motor or compressor (whatever the cap is for) is probably failing that's why the caps don't last. Sometimes you can buy a soft start kit for your unit that will help. Either that or

For most units there is also a capacitor for the running load. It shifts the phase of the current so the motors can be driven 2x as often rather than only the 60hz cycle.

The AC units at homes are not 3 phase at least in the United States. The answer to the question is the quality of capacitors has went to shit so anytime I have to buy one for friends or famil

As my unit aged they started going out more frequently. Replaced it 5 years ago and haven’t had one go out … yet.

If it doesn't last 20 years, something else is wrong. The capacitor is there for startup load. If it's still needed to maintain operation there are other factors that need to be addressed. He

Last one I replaced was ordered from Digikey, Check the datasheets. Often you'll note a models number for the longer lasting grades, It was $10 more and 5 times the rated life, hasn't failed

I got a bunch of old oil and paper capacitors my work was disposing of. The capacitor on AC units are 3-phase, so I was able to find 3 of the correct sized ones and wire them in. Should last
