Identification Service or Resource for Vintage/Obscure Firearms

The user is trying to identify an old rifle, probably from the 1960s, but can't figure out the caliber because it's not clearly marked. This points to a need for specialized firearm identification services or detailed, easy-to-search databases for vintage or inherited guns. A key part of such a service would be to encourage owners to get professional gunsmith verification for the caliber to ensure safety. This would help them understand the rifle's history, make sure it's safe to use, and determine its value. The main benefit would be improved firearm safety through professional caliber confirmation and correct ammunition use, as well as giving owners a better understanding of their rifle's history and accurate valuation.

Lucky, definitely a Steyr Mannlicher. Give that thing a coat of oil stat! That is a very nice and expensive rifle. About $2500 new.

To me it looks like an import mark. It might be that Stöger was the importer of these into the US.

Mannlicher is the type, usually has this full stock. But was also the name of the company after the Damiler split. Now its just Steyr arms.
