Matte Finish Solution or Improved Decals for Model Makers

Identified Need: Model makers often struggle to create realistic camouflage netting or fabric strips (like Hessian tape) for their models, resorting to suboptimal materials like masking tape which don't look convincing.

Opportunity: Many modelers, especially those working on military vehicles, want to add realistic camouflage netting or fabric strips (e.g., Hessian tape, burlap) to their projects. The user in the discussion explicitly states their attempt at "Hessian tape" using masking tape was not "dense or stringy enough" and was rightly criticized for looking like tape. This indicates a clear need for better, purpose-made materials.

Product Suggestion: A range of scale-appropriate, ready-to-use camouflage texturing materials for model kits. This would include:

  1. Fine, flexible camouflage netting: Pre-cut or in sheets, made from a fine, drapable, and paintable fabric mesh or laser-cut paper/synthetic material. Offered in various common scales (e.g., 1/35, 1/48, 1/72) and potentially pre-colored in common camouflage shades or in a neutral color for custom painting.
  2. Scale "Hessian Tape" / Burlap Strips: Thin, textured, and flexible strips of material (e.g., treated paper, fine fabric) designed to simulate burlap or canvas strips used for camouflage. These could also be offered in various widths and pre-colored or paintable options.

Expected Benefit: Sales of these specialized modeling accessories. Modelers would be able to achieve a higher level of realism and detail with greater ease compared to scratch-building these elements from unsuitable materials like masking tape. This would lead to increased customer satisfaction, positive reviews, and repeat business for a company offering such specialized and sought-after detailing products.

I like it

Chipping is great, but exposed metal in the field starts to oxidize really fast, so giving it a redish orange rust filter would make it look less shiny and more natural. I'd also recommend so

I'm guessing you are going for the camouflage netting look on the firefly? I'm not trying to be rude, but yours looks like tape. Take a look at some reference photos. https://preview.redd.i
