Online Course/Workshop: Sewing with Delicate & Tricky Fabrics
Opportunity: The user is super nervous about working with silk dupioni for the first time, and it's a fabric known for being tricky. They plan to make a baby carrier and sling, which require some structural integrity and careful sewing. This shows they need a solid information resource.
Product Suggestion: A specialized online mini-course or a comprehensive downloadable PDF guide titled "Mastering Silk Dupioni: From First Stitch to Finished Project (with Baby Carrier & Accessory Focus)."
This resource would cover:
- Understanding Silk Dupioni: Properties, common challenges (fraying, water spotting, shifting), and benefits.
- Essential Tools & Supplies: Recommended needles (e.g., microtex), thread (silk or fine cotton), pins (silk pins), cutting tools (rotary cutter and mat recommended), stabilizers/interfacing suitable for silk and for baby carriers.
- Fabric Preparation: Pre-washing (if applicable, and how to do it safely for dupioni), pressing techniques, and the importance of grainline.
- Cutting & Marking Techniques: Tips to prevent shifting and ensure accuracy.
- Sewing Silk Dupioni: Best stitch types, length, tension settings, seam finishes to prevent fraying (e.g., French seams, Hong Kong finish), handling curves and corners.
- Specific Considerations for Baby Carriers/Slings: Reinforcement techniques for stress points, appropriate interfacing for structure and safety, and considerations for washing the finished item.
- Troubleshooting Common Issues: Puckering, skipped stitches, and fabric damage.
- Inspiring Project Ideas (Beyond Carriers): Briefly showcase other items that can be made to encourage further use of the fabric.
Expected Benefits:
- For the User:
- Increased confidence in tackling a challenging fabric.
- Reduced likelihood of costly mistakes with expensive material.
- Step-by-step guidance tailored to their project type (baby carrier).
- Acquisition of new skills applicable to other delicate fabrics.
- Higher quality and durability of the finished baby carrier.
- For the Provider (Estimated):
- High Engagement: Sewers working with expensive or tricky fabrics actively seek reliable information.
- Monetization Potential: A well-structured PDF guide could sell for $15-$25. A mini-course could range from $49-$99.
- Niche Authority: Establishes expertise in specialized sewing techniques.
- Affiliate Marketing Opportunities: Links to recommended tools, supplies, or even fabric stores.
- Scalability: Digital product with low reproduction costs.
- Assuming a modest target of 200 sales for a PDF guide at $20, revenue = $4,000. For a mini-course with 100 sales at $79, revenue = $7,900. This could be achieved through targeted marketing on sewing forums, social media groups, and craft blogs.

Keep it on grain, don't baby it too much. I typically use size 11/75 microtex needles, and often distress and soften it with Pam Erny's instructions.
Chlorine bleach will dissolve silk.

to be fair, it's a curtain set and I initially bought 2 84" panels for the carrier, then saw the same seller had a matching window scarf and severely underestimated how much fabric that was g
