Revival of Light Gun Gaming: Nostalgia Meets Modern Tech Opportunity.

Published on 06/05/2025Trend Spotting / Early Adopter Signals

The launch of a new light gun that works with modern TVs, especially when paired with a classic like Time Crisis, really hits the nostalgia sweet spot for many gamers. The enthusiastic comment ("Ngl, I want this") shows there's real interest out there. This opens up several opportunities:

  1. Niche Marketing: Targeting retro gaming enthusiasts and those who grew up with arcade light gun games.
  2. Accessory Market: Developing complementary products like custom gun skins, holsters, or even multiplayer bundles.
  3. Software Development: Licensing and porting other classic light gun titles or creating new games specifically for this hardware, potentially reviving a whole genre.
  4. Community Building: Creating online communities or events centered around this new light gun experience.

I'm legit interested! I had so much fun at the arcade with these games as a kid
u/Middcore
Yeah, this is something I would need to see reviews of after it's out. Not taking the risk on the Kickstarter only to later find out that the "AI" is really just some kind of auto-aim.
u/cjinl
This is really cool, but it's unfortunate that they only include Time Crisis when the 2nd and 3rd games are so much better.
u/NuPNua
Presumably you'd reverse engineer and write a translation layer.
u/Darklord_Bravo
Yeah, I'd buy this.

I kind of doubt that MAME would be compatible with whatever black magic they're using to tell the game where the gun is pointing.
u/NuPNua
Cheers, I'll have a butchers.

The aliens arcade cabinet was so much more fun, the one with the assult rifle that had the grenade launcher at the end of it.

This is just a rebranded Ultimarc AimTrak, which works with MAME on modern screens.

Needs a port of Area 51, Duck Hunt, and House of the Dead

I think this idea's a winner. Unless ofcourse Nintendo decide they want to gazump this with nostalgia.
u/BrewKazma
Point Blank is better than time crisis anyway. Glad to see it included.

One thing I'm wondering is what the feedback while shooting will be. In the arcades, I recall them having a satisfying mechanical? recoil that made it feel a lot more impactful. It will come

Oooh, Point Blank!

I'd be on board if there's a capability to add other games in the future for a reasonable price.

The aliens arcade cabinet was so much more fun, the one with the assult rifle that had the grenade launcher at the end of it.

I can get behind AI in this use case. Want to see if it tracks well though before buying in.

Can’t make any money selling another if you put everything in one product

I wish arcades were still around so I could go and see who's right, here
u/BrewKazma
Point Blank is better than time crisis anyway. Glad to see it included.

This is really cool, but it's unfortunate that they only include Time Crisis when the 2nd and 3rd games are so much better.

Cheers, I'll have a butchers.

Presumably you'd reverse engineer and write a translation layer.

Die Hard Trilogy had the best light gun gameplay

One thing I'm wondering is what the feedback while shooting will be. In the arcades, I recall them having a satisfying mechanical? recoil that made it feel a lot more impactful. It will come

I think this idea's a winner. Unless ofcourse Nintendo decide they want to gazump this with nostalgia.

Needs a port of Area 51, Duck Hunt, and House of the Dead

This breaks the original souce rule of this subreddit. This is a cheap ripoff of a toms hardware post.
u/Middcore
Yeah, this is something I would need to see reviews of after it's out. Not taking the risk on the Kickstarter only to later find out that the "AI" is really just some kind of auto-aim.
