Searchable Database/Service for Vintage Electronics Power Specs
The user's query about the required voltage input for a 20-year-old IBM TFT's circuit boards after losing the power supply highlights a common issue with older electronics.
Product/Service Opportunity: A publicly accessible, searchable database of power specifications (voltage, amperage, polarity, plug type) for vintage and obscure electronics.
Specific Product Suggestion: "RetroPower DB" - A community-driven, searchable online database where users can find and contribute power supply specifications for older electronic devices.
Key Features:
- Search Functionality: By device model number, brand, type, or even original power supply part number.
- Detailed Specifications: Voltage (V), Amperage (A/mA), Polarity (e.g., center positive/negative), connector type/size (e.g., 5.5mm barrel jack), and if available, a picture of the original power supply or port.
- User Contributions & Verification: Allow users to submit new entries and suggest corrections, with a moderation system to ensure accuracy.
- Alternative PSU Suggestions: Links to compatible universal power adapters or known modern replacements (potentially monetized via affiliate links).
- Image Uploads: Users can upload pictures of devices, labels, and power ports to aid identification.
Expected Benefits:
- Prevents Device Damage: Users can find accurate power requirements, avoiding damage from incorrect voltage or polarity.
- Extends Device Lifespan / Reduces E-waste: Enables the continued use of older, functional electronics by making it easier to find or replace lost power supplies.
- Saves Time and Frustration: Provides a centralized resource, saving users from lengthy forum searches or risky trial-and-error.
- Community Building: Fosters a community of vintage tech enthusiasts and repairers.
- Monetization Potential:
- Affiliate links to compatible power supplies on e-commerce sites.
- Optional premium features (e.g., API access for repair shops, ad-free experience).
- Donations from grateful users.
- Partnerships with electronics recyclers or refurbishers.
This addresses a clear need for information that can prevent damage, reduce waste, and help users revive old technology.

Lost the power supply for these circuit boards which controls a ~20 year old IBM TFT. Any ideas what voltage input is required?

The center pin on the barrel jack has continuity to the red wire which goes to the tall thin board which connects to an IBM 21L8340 TFT screen and I assume provides power. Two buck converters

Quite old school.
It uses 12v 2~3a.

Yep, I used it for arcade game testing around 2000-2005 with a converter board. No idea where the 12v supply went.

Danke! Working fine on 12v! Thanks.
