Niche Opportunity: The user points out a common, ongoing frustration with Windows: the unreliable network discovery between different versions of the OS (Win10 vs. Win11). While you can manually map drives if you know the path, the automatic discovery feature in File Explorer often fails, leading to an inconsistent and confusing experience. This is a clear and recurring pain point for users in home networks, home labs, or small offices without a dedicated domain controller or IT support. The core issue lies in the fragility of the underlying protocols (NetBIOS/WS-Discovery) that Windows relies on for this function.

SaaS Product Proposal: A SaaS product could address this by replacing Windows' native discovery protocol with a more modern and reliable system.

  • Product Form: A lightweight, cross-platform agent (or "client") installed on each computer (Windows 10, 11, and potentially macOS). This agent runs in the background and uses its own robust discovery method to find other devices on the network running the same agent. Discovery could be achieved via a local broadcast protocol, or for ultimate reliability, by having each agent check in with a cloud-based "rendezvous" service. This service would only broker connections by sharing local IP addresses, not handle any file traffic. The product would provide a simple, clean interface that reliably lists all online devices, shows their shared folders, and allows for one-click mapping of network drives, automatically handling firewall rules and connection complexities.

  • Key Features:

    • Reliable Device Discovery: Bypasses Windows' faulty system.
    • Simple UI: A single dashboard to see all connected network devices.
    • One-Click Mapping: Simplifies the process of accessing shared folders.
    • Persistent Connections: Automatically remaps drives on system startup.
    • Status Notifications: Alerts when a key device comes online or goes offline.

Expected Revenue: This utility product is aimed at prosumers and small businesses who value convenience and reliability over manual workarounds.

  • Pricing Model: A subscription model is most suitable, covering the costs of the cloud rendezvous server and ongoing development.

    • Free Tier: Limited to 2-3 devices to solve the problem for the most basic home user and serve as a product trial.
    • Pro Tier: $20-$30 per year for up to 10 devices.
    • Business Tier: $50-$100 per year for 25+ devices.
  • Revenue Projection: This is a niche market, but the problem is widespread. Capturing a modest base of 5,000 paying users (a mix of Pro and Business tiers) could generate an Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) of $125,000 - $200,000. This represents a viable lifestyle business for a solo developer or small team.

Can map a network drive that Win11 does not discover

Have two Lenovo machines running Win10Pro and a nasty Lenovo T16Gen2 running Win11Pro 24H2. On a private network, I can see the T16Gen2 on both Win10 machines and access files. I have never b

In Win11, are you saying "open network" in Explorer? If I "Map network drive" I have to assign it a drive letter and then it shows up under This PC instead of Network. On the T510 running Wi

Couldn't post two images at once. Without mapping, the T510 discovers the T16Gen2 which shows up under Network in Explorer. https://preview.redd.it/rre5yopjzy9f1.jpeg?width=231&format=pj

Yes is the short answer. First thing you need to do is make sure the share is active, ie you shared it, then you went into security and set up either everyone with read access or guest with r
