This was planned, both figuratively and literally.

The OKC Thunder are 24-1 before the Earth passed through the debris trail of the mysterious asteroid 3200 Phaethon, and 6-6 after.
Before December 13, 2024 -- the annual peak of the Geminid meteor shower, when Earth passes through the debris stream shed by the asteroid 3200 Phaethon -- the Thunder only lost 1 of their first 25 games. The Geminids are no ordinary meteor shower: while most are caused by comets, this shower is caused by an asteroid. And while most meteor showers do not affect human history, this one inarguably caused the OKC Thunder to stumble from their path of greatness into their current age of mediocrity.
Before the Chris Finch ejection, OKC was 25-2, since the Ejection: 5-5
On December 12th, Minnesota Timberwolves head coach and certified hater Chris Finch blew up at officials angry at how the game was being officiated. Finch has been a vocal critic of the way OKC Thunder has been officiated for a while so this was not out of the blue. However despite getting out to a 25-2 start and talks about potentially setting the win record, the OKC thunder have played .500 ball since the Ejection. Do you think that following Finches blow up the league reevaluated how they officiated OKCās style of play or is it just a team going through a rough patch?
After a brutal defeat by the Hornets, the Thunder have lost their first regular season game against the Eastern Conference since January 8th, 2025
[Source:](https://www.espn.com/nba/team/schedule/_/name/okc/season/2025) The Thunder slip to 5-5 in their last 10 games. Their last loss to the East came against the Cavs, very nearly a full calendar year ago. Is what looked like one of the greatest teams in NBA history just weeks back starting to lose title favorite status?
Last night, the Thunder lost in Oklahoma City to the Hornets by 27 points. It was the biggest home loss by a reigning champion with the reigning MVP in league history.
The previous record, 23-point loss (Lakers with Shaquille OāNeal on January 7, 2001). On January 7, 2001, the Los Angeles Lakers lost to theĀ Clippers, 118-95, in a surprising upset, led by Lamar Odom's 29 points for the Clippers, with the Clippers' bench significantly outscoring the Lakers' reserves, 45-12, as part of a dominant Clippers performance at the STAPLES Center.Ā The Lakers obviously moved on from this loss and won the chip that season, defeating the 76ers in 5 games. Their 2nd title in two season.
Thunder need to win 44 of their next 45 games to break the 2016 Warriors regular season wins record.
They started the season 24-1 and had this all time point differential but now they are 6-6 in their last 12 games. They havenāt even faced the Nuggets yet.
SGA sits out another fourth quarter, ending the night against the Hornets with 21 points, including 6/6 free throws, 6 assists and 1/6 from 3
SGA continues to impress with his now 18th fourth quarter sat for the season so far. He is now 1 game behind 2016 Curry for fourth quarters sat.
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in the blowout loss to the Hornets: 21/2/6 on 7-21 FG, 1-6 from 3PT and 6-6 FT with 2 turnovers and 2 fouls, -20

OKC's defensive fouls committed per game prior to the Chris Finch ejection: 20.5. OKC's defensive fouls committed per game since the ejection: 18.0. As fun a narrative as it is, there's really no sign of them getting a worse defensive whistle since that incident.
[https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/okc-thunder-stats](https://www.statmuse.com/nba/ask/okc-thunder-stats) It's a fun narrative and all but it doesn't seem to be backed up by much in reality OKC are playing the exact same style of defense as always since the Wolves game and actually being whistled for LESS fouls it's mostly been in the halfcourt offense where they've absolutely hit a wall Unless you think OKC have toned down their physicality on purpose since that game to avoid backlash which is why they foul less now and from their nationally televised games I didn't really see that change at all
